BPC-157, PL 14736, PL-10, body protection compound and the name in the regulatory lists — one molecule, several labels

The molecule GEPPPGKPADDAGLV is called BPC-157 in nearly all of the scientific literature, the number distinguishing it from other fragments of the parent body protection compound studied in the early 1990s. In the clinical development files of the Croatian company Pliva it was coded PL 14736 and, in some papers, PL-10. Descriptively the Zagreb papers call it the stable gastric pentadecapeptide. Regulatory listings, including the WADA prohibited list and the United States compounding evaluation, use the name BPC-157, and some chemical databases register it under a formal nonproprietary-style name as well. A reader searching trial registries or regulatory documents needs the Pliva codes; one searching the literature needs BPC-157.

The number

Body protection compound was the name given to a gastric-juice protein; its fragments were numbered as they were tested. BPC-157 was the fragment that showed the gastric activity the group was looking for, and it became the only one pursued. The number has no chemical meaning.

The sequence is the only unambiguous identifier and is on every certificate.

The development codes

Pliva assigned PL 14736 to the compound during its clinical programme, and trial registrations and some pharmacology papers from the 2000s use that code or PL-10. The programme produced no published results, as described on its own page, and the codes survive mainly as a way of finding the registrations. Pliva itself was absorbed into larger companies and the codes are no longer used.

The page on the unpublished programme sets out what is known.

Why it is here

Because the same molecule under several names is a practical obstacle to reading about it, and because the regulatory listings use one name while the trial records use another. It describes nomenclature and no use of the pack.

The BPC-157 + TB500 blend is supplied by REVIVE LAB UAE for laboratory research use only, with identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC for each component of the batch. It is not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing, administration or protocol guidance is provided.
