Why a coloured compound is a light-sensitive compound

Published 24 October 2026 · REVIVE LAB UAE Research Desk · 5 min read
A compound is coloured because it absorbs part of the visible spectrum, and absorbed light is energy available for chemistry. In GHK-Cu the absorbing centre is the copper, so light exposure can drive redox events there and at nearby residues. TB-500 and BPC-157 are colourless and absorb only in the ultraviolet, so they are affected by light mainly through aromatic residues.

Absorption is the mechanism

Copper(II) complexes absorb through transitions between d orbitals, producing the blue to violet colour. An excited copper centre can accept or donate an electron more readily than a ground-state one, which is the route from light to oxidative chemistry at the metal and at the peptide holding it.

This is general coordination chemistry and applies to any copper complex.

The plain peptides

TB-500 and BPC-157 absorb in the ultraviolet through their peptide bonds and any aromatic residues. Ultraviolet exposure can oxidise tryptophan, tyrosine and histidine where present; it is a smaller concern under ordinary indoor light than visible absorption by a metal centre.

In the blend, the copper component is the light-sensitive one.

What follows

Protection from light on the carton is not a formality for GLOW. Exposure is cumulative, damage is irreversible, and the plain peptides share the vial with the compound that absorbs.

The GLOW blend is supplied by REVIVE LAB UAE for laboratory research use only, with batch identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC. It is not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing, administration or protocol guidance is provided.
