Why the three components appear differently in one mass spectrum

Published 24 October 2026 · REVIVE LAB UAE Research Desk · 5 min read
In electrospray ionisation, a peptide picks up roughly as many protons as it has basic sites. GHK-Cu, with one lysine and a terminal amine, appears mainly as a singly charged species with its copper isotope pattern. BPC-157 and the thymosin fragment, with more basic residues, appear across two or more charge states. The spectrum therefore shows one simple signal and two charge envelopes that must be deconvoluted to neutral masses.

How charge arises

Protons attach to lysine side chains, arginine where present, histidine and the N-terminus. The more such sites, the higher the charge a molecule can carry, and the lower its mass-to-charge ratio appears for a given mass. Instruments display mass-to-charge, not mass.

Deconvolution software converts the envelope back to a neutral mass.

What each component shows

GHK-Cu: a dominant singly charged peak near its mass with the copper doublet, uncomplicated. BPC-157: a small envelope, since it has one lysine and an N-terminus. The thymosin fragment: a wider envelope from its several lysines. The three therefore occupy different regions of the spectrum and are read differently.

That is why a blend spectrum takes more interpretation than a single-compound one.

For a certificate reader

A certificate should report the deconvoluted neutral mass for each component and note the copper pattern for GHK-Cu. Three raw mass-to-charge values without deconvolution would be hard to compare against the expected masses.

The GLOW blend is supplied by REVIVE LAB UAE for laboratory research use only, with batch identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC. It is not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing, administration or protocol guidance is provided.
