Who the approved product is not for, and the reasoning behind each exclusion

Published 26 October 2026 · REVIVE LAB UAE Research Desk · 5 min read
The approved label lists four contraindications: disruption of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis from hypophysectomy, hypopituitarism, pituitary tumour or surgery, or head irradiation, because the drug cannot act without a functioning pituitary; active malignancy, because growth hormone and IGF-1 are growth signals; pregnancy, because the fetus is a growth-hormone-sensitive system and the drug was not studied there; and known hypersensitivity. Warnings follow on raised IGF-1 and its unknown long-term meaning, on glucose intolerance, on fluid retention, and on caution where a malignancy has been treated. Each follows from the pharmacology described on this site.

The axis exclusions

A releasing-hormone analogue acts on somatotrophs. Where they have been removed, destroyed or irradiated there is nothing for it to act on, and where a pituitary tumour is present stimulating it is unwise. This is the same reasoning that makes a GHRH stimulation test uninformative after irradiation, and it is the exclusion most specific to the class.

Somatropin has no such exclusion, because it acts downstream.

The growth-signal exclusions

Active malignancy and pregnancy both involve tissues in which growth hormone and IGF-1 act, and in which raising them has no studied safety basis. The malignancy exclusion rests on the IGF-1 epidemiology described on the IGF-1 pages, not on a signal in the trials, which were too short and small to see one. The pregnancy exclusion rests on absence of data.

The warnings extend the same logic to treated malignancy and to the IGF-1 level itself.

Why it is here

Because the contraindications are the clearest statement of where the pharmacology runs out, and they are part of what is established. It describes the label and no use of the pack.

Tesamorelin is supplied by REVIVE LAB UAE for laboratory research use only, with identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC for the batch. It is not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing, administration or protocol guidance is provided.
