About IGF-1 LR3

IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is a recombinant analogue of human insulin-like growth factor 1, modified in two ways: an arginine substituted for glutamic acid at position 3, and a 13-amino-acid extension on the N-terminus. The result is an 83-residue polypeptide against native IGF-1's 70.
Those modifications exist for one reason — native IGF-1 is almost entirely bound by IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) in circulation and in culture media, which sharply limits its free, bioactive fraction. LR3 has roughly a hundred-fold lower affinity for IGFBPs, which is why it became the standard supplement in serum-free cell-culture systems.
