Which component can oxidise, and which largely cannot

Published 24 October 2026 · REVIVE LAB UAE Research Desk · 5 min read
Oxidation in peptides occurs mainly at methionine, cysteine, tryptophan and, less readily, histidine and tyrosine. BPC-157, a 15-residue sequence of glycine, glutamate, proline, lysine, alanine, aspartate, leucine and valine, contains none of the first three and is comparatively resistant. GHK-Cu contains histidine and holds a redox-active metal. The composition of the thymosin fragment is stated on the lot certificate.

The resistant component

The BPC-157 sequence contains no sulfur-bearing residue and no tryptophan, which removes the three most oxidation-prone side chains. It is one reason the compound is noted for stability in solution. Hydrolysis and other pathways remain, but oxidation is not the first concern for this component.

This follows from the sequence and is not a claim about effect.

The copper component

GHK-Cu carries histidine, whose imidazole can oxidise, and more importantly carries copper, which cycles between oxidation states and can generate reactive oxygen species in the presence of oxygen and a reductant. In this component the metal is both the point and the risk.

Oxidation here can also change the coordination, which is what the colour reports.

The fragment

The thymosin beta-4 fragment contains residues whose susceptibility depends on which part of the parent sequence it covers. The catalogue records it as 17 residues; the certificate for the lot states its identity. Pages on this site do not assert its residue composition beyond that.

The GLOW blend is supplied by REVIVE LAB UAE for laboratory research use only, with batch identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC. It is not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing, administration or protocol guidance is provided.
