Where Does GHK Occur Naturally?

Published 2026-10-26 · REVIVE Peptides Research Desk · 1 min read
Short answer: In human plasma, saliva and urine. The tripeptide is thought to be released from larger proteins — collagen and SPARC among them — when tissue is broken down. Pickart reported that plasma levels fall with age, from about 200 ng/mL at age 20 to about 80 ng/mL by age 60, a figure that recurs throughout the literature and that comes from his own measurements.

Because the sequence Gly-His-Lys occurs within collagen, one hypothesis is that the peptide is a fragment signalling that collagen is being degraded; the alternative hypothesis treats it as a circulating factor in its own right. The two are described on the knowledge pages and neither is settled.

The age-decline figure is cited as published; it has not been widely replicated by other groups.
